Term 4, Week 6.

 Kia ora koutou,

This week we welcome back Maimuna and Ibrahim to school. It's so nice that more students are coming back to school. It's a shame that we can only have 20 students in our class bubble though.
Our focus this week is on Te Whare Tapa Wha. We are using Minecraft to design and build Whare and filling them with things that help us each each of the 4 aspects of our wellbeing.

For Maths we have returned to Algebra, looking specifically algebraic patterns and BEDMAS using solvemoji's. Students have to solve some problems and then create their own.

Room 13 have been spending sometime outside in the sunny weather doing relays and games. We've had to get very creative while we can't use any sports equipment or get too close to each other. There have been lots of challenges like planking. The Rata students were able to earn a lot of points through their endurance during these challenges. Totara is still leading the points but they have some tough competition ahead.

Back to school!

Kia ora Readers,

It's week 5 now, our year is nearly done. Thankfully we're allowed back in the classroom after a total of three months in Lockdown. School looks a bit different with our current restrictions- we're only allowed to have a maximum of 20 students in each class. At the moments we have 11 students in our class bubble.

Mr Jones is running Google Meets for the students that are still at home. As we adjust back to school life and get used to being together again we plan on taking things slow and just having (socially distanced) fun together. This means Kahoots, Minecraft and outside games.

Here's hoping we're allowed to more soon!

Week 3

 Kia ora Readers

This week seems to have gone really fast. Must be an end of year thing. What do you think?

Room 13 have been spending some time catching up on their work and making sure that they've completed the tasks set this term.

In our Meetings, we've started to use Jamboards to collaborate and share ideas with each other for Math and Reading. The students seem to really engage with these so we will definitely keep using them from now on.

We're still looking at patterns in Geometry. The students had to create their own one that included some form of symmetry, reflection, or rotation. Check out Lucija's pattern that she made.

Our focus for writing this week was to look back at what makes up a Quality blog post or comment from our CyberSmart lessons. Mr Jones is hoping that by the end of Friday this week everyone in the class has commented or posted at least once.

Term 4 Week 2

 Kia ora koutou,

This week has been a short one with Labour Weekend. I think Room 13 appreciated the extra day of rest.

Room 13 have continued their focus into Geometry- specifically Tessellation and what that is.

Isla shared a pattern she made to her blog. Ka pai!  Leave her a comment about what you think of her work so far. George shared his as well.

We also started to look at Te Whare Tapa Whā and our own wellbeing.

Maimuna wrote a but about her wellbeing.

As it is Halloween week, Mr Jones set a few challenges for the class.

Leon has already completed his choice of activity on Minecraft (Shot Leon!!!!)

Check out his blog

The class were very excited to hear about the "indicative" return date to school- November 15th. Here's hoping we can all end our year back inside the classroom!

Term 4

 Kia ora koutou,

Welcome to Term 4. Definitely did not expect to still be in Lockdown going into Term 4 but I'm sure we will make the best of it.

Our online learning has already begun. Here's Room 13's schedule for this week:

This week New Windsor is celebrating Niuean and Cook Island Languages. Whaea Tini has done an awesome job with the language sites for the school and has given us lots to challenge ourselves with. Take a look:

For Writing we have looked at what being responsible means. The class made posters showing what they think it means to be responsible in a context of their choice.

Check out Amelia's poster and leave her a comment.
Lucija made one focusing on being tidy and recycling.

For Math, Room 13 have started looking at Geometry, specifically in Tivaevae patterns.

We have discussed some key words that pop up in Geometry like rotation, reflection and parallel.
To help us learn some of these words Nazahah recommended we watch a video that she has used to help her learn them.  Here's the link

Monday Week 10

 Kia ora Readers,

Wow, Week 10 of Term 3. Time and space have melted together a bit for Mr Jones. This term was jam packed at the start, funny how things change so suddenly.

This week Room 13 will be celebrating Chinese Language Week. Thanks to Whaea Tini and the Cultural Events Team for setting up an amazing resource for us. Check it our below:

There are daily challenges on there as well as a weekly challenge to do with the Chinese Zodiac. One of the daily challenges today was to find a recipe for dumplings and try to make some. I know that's a task for our juniors but it is very tempting....

Did you know it's also Tuvalu Language Week? Mr Jones does not know much about Tuvalu at the moment. His challenge this week is to find out more about them.

Room 13 will be carrying on their Quest writing this week. This morning Leon and Ananya shared their maps from last week to the class.

Maimuna has been working hard on her Stop Motion filming. Check out her blog to see what she's done.

Last week, Mr Jones set a challenge for Room 13. Anyone who completed Toxicode and took a screenshot of the completed challenges would win fale points. So far only 2 have been able to. Ka Pai Leon and Viliami! How far can you get?

Stop Motion Animations and Coding

 Kia ora koutou,

Wow, week 9 already! This Term has really been a bit of a blob hasn't it?

This week Room 13 are focusing on animations and coding activities. Mr Jones was inspired by a course he was on and wanted to share his learning with his students.

Check out the coding activities, how far can you get?

Previously, Room 13 had looked at animating using Google slides. This week we've stepped in up and started looking at Stop Motion filming- this is where you take an object, take a photo, then move it EVER SO slightly and then take another photo. You repeat this process and put all the photos together to make it look like the object is moving by itself.
Room 13 are currently still working on this so be sure to check out their blogs when they finish them.

Term 4, Week 6.
